One of the aspects of Arena that determines who you fight is your Arena Rank.
Your Arena Rank is partly figured out by both your total ADP & the # of boss kills you have. And as stated it determines a big portion of your Arena gameplay.
Who you are matched up against in Rank Battles is always within +/- 1 of your Arena rank. When you do the Daily Challenge, then you are also matched up against opponents relative to your Arena Rank.
The way you increase or decrease your Arena Rank is by participating in Ranked Battles. As you can see from the image, that player is Ranked 40, however they have 4 of 5 stars lit. When you win a battle, you win a star, when you get all 5 stars lit up, then you will go up 1 rank. When you lose a battle, you lose a star, and if you lose all of them, then you can go down a rank.
1 of the better advantages of your Arena Rank though is that if you do the Ranked Battle three times a day, then you are eligible to receive Arena Points Daily.
